Bento Boxes From Daiso |
Bento Box Ingredients |
Our trip to Mitsuwa yesterday was successful. We found many Bento Box ingredients.
- Rice
- Pickled Dyed Ginger
- Indian Bitter Melon
- Muraski Imo Somen- Purple Yam Noodles
- New Crop Sweet Potato
- Okinawan Purple Yam
- Snow Peas
- Ohba -Shiso Leaf
- Sliced Kabocha Squash
- Shishito -Japanese Peppers
Cooking the Rice
Cooking the Yams and Squash |
They had pre-sliced our squash which was very convenient. We love purple yams and have had them many times before, but this was the first time we had real "white" sweet potato.
Cooking the Soba Noodles |
Always slightly under cook the Soba so they don't get soggy.
Fava Beans |
This is how aliens are born, through Fava Bean Pods. Ha ha ha, just kidding, but have you ever really looked at one? There's a white web like substance with little babies hooked up to electrodes! Look at one and tell me I am not right.
The Bitter Melon, Shishitos and Fava Beans |
We have tried Chinese Bitter Melon, we fry it quickly like fries and add salt. Indian Bitter Melon is much more bitter, but it still tasted great with the Shishitos and delicious buttery Fava Beans.
The Green Bento Box |
The Yam Flowers Bento Box |
The Green Bento box had white rice topped with raw Pea Pods, Fava Beans, Bitter Melon and Shiso Leaf. Shiso Leaf is wonderful. It is a cross between Basil and Mint and is so very, very good.
The Yam Flowers Bento Box had pink dyed rice, Pickled Ginger, Shiso leaves, Squash, White Sweet Potato, Purple Yam and Purple Yam Noodles.
Everything was delicious and fun to eat!
