Beef Stroganoff

My family loves Beef Stroganoff, but one member will not eat the sour cream and mushrooms, so I heat them up separately and add them after I have removed their portion.  The secret is to let the meat simmer for a few hours.  Lately, I have been using this meat called Carne Picada from +Walmart.  It is cut up in bite-size pieces and is quick and easy to use.

Gathering the Ingredients for Beef Stroganoff
Ingredients:
  • Beef - Carne Picada
  • 1 Large Container Sour Cream
  • 1 Stick Butter
  • 2 Small Onions
  • 3 Bulbs Garlic
  • 1 Stalk Celery
  • 1 Large Package White Mushrooms
  • 1 Package French Green Beans
  • 1 Package Whole Wheat Egg Noodles
  • 1 Bottle Sherry
  • 1 tsp. Garlic Powder

Melting the Butter

I love using my iron Dutch Oven for making soups and stews and Stroganoff.  It has a heavy lid and a thick bottom.  You can pretty much put your meat in, start it simmering, put the lid on and then set it to low heat and forget about it for a few hours.

Browning the Beef

The secret to any good soup or stew-type meal is to brown the meat and let it simmer until flavorful and tender.

I have been making Stroganoff for over 20 years and through the ages, I have learned to put plenty of Garlic, Sherry and Sour Cream.

Adding the Sherry

Have all your veggies washed and ready to pop in the pot.  Be sure to wash your mushrooms well, by soaking them in a bowl of water.  Cut off all the bruised or dark spots on your celery.

Add your Veggies and Noodles to the pot. Liquid will come out of the veggies as they are heated, so don't worry about adding extra water. Put the pot on High heat on stir constantly.  The Noodles will pick up the extra liquid.

Adding the Veggies and Noodles to the pot
I warm the sliced mushrooms and sour cream separately.  When the Noodles are tender add some of the Beef/Noodle Mixture to the Mushroom/Sour Cream pot.  Be sure to save some Beef/Noodle Mixture for the picky eaters!
